How Slow Do You Go?

SITS

I'm not always the most precisely working person. To be honest, I kind of tend to go for the slapdash approach. And even though a while ago I decided to change my way of working (funny, I was working on a coat back then too. What's that with me and coats?), in general I still like to take shortcuts.

It's tempting to do that again now since I'm really, really wanting to have finished my coat already. But the fabric is too beautiful. This coat promises lovely spring walks, maybe even some glasses of wine on a terrace in the sun. So I restrain myself. And take the secure, precise route.

And I really enjoyed that today. While the two littlest ones were asleep, I chose a spot in the sun and started pinning and basting. Slowly, precisely, I worked on the sleeves. And what do you know? The part of a project that I always find a bit challenging now went like a breeze. No puckers, no muttered curses, in less then half an hour, the sleeves were set in. I was kind of impressed with myself, I have to say :-)

How slow do you go? Do you take shortcuts to reach results or is your approach precise and secure, never compromising the quality of your work?

I take shortcuts. Just like you, I only sew when my DD is asleep, i.e. nights i.e. with the feeling I have no minute to waste. Basting, what's that?

Total opposite of slapdash, I am painstaking and particular. But like you, I'm working on changing my way of working too. : )

I wonder how much this goes back to how many projects we each have going at a time. Sometimes I need a little distance because I get too muddled up in the details. If I pick up something totally different for a while, I can often come back to the original project with a clearer outlook of what to do next (and what NOT to get hung up on).

I really enjoy it when I take it slow, although I've been know to take shortcuts. I've just made a border mistake on the the quilt I'm making and I could take a shortcut and leave it as is, or take it out and do it right -- no one would know either way. I'll be taking it out. I can't WAIT to see your coat!
