A New Look: The Maxi Skirt

Shoesandwool

I purchased some gorgeous soft wool crepe with which I intend to make a long, wide skirt for this winter. But today I was browsing some blogs and saw several discussions about maxi skirts, like this one. It seems people are pretty divided on how they feel about this skirt length, and on whether or not the style is gypsy, muzzy, or great.

This summer I already wore some skirts that fell on my ankles, but ofcourse that was a complete other sort of fabric and thus another kind of skirt. I can imagine, that with certain fabrics, such long skirts can indeed give a hippy kind of feel. Which, I think, can be quite fun in the summer, but it's not what I'm intending to create with this beautiful wool. No, what I have in mind is something more like Dior's New Look:

New Look

So, I am trying to gather the courage to start cutting that wonderful wool and in the meantime I'm curious to hear: How do you feel about the maxi skirt?

I want a maxi skirt! Would love to see it in wool, bit hot for us here now but would be lovely in the colder months.

I just read some of the links about maxi skirts, and now don't what WHAT it is anymore. Does "maxi" refer to the length? (And if so, does it mean to the FLOOR to just ankle length or so) Or does "maxi" also refer to the fullness? Does it have to be really full to be considered a maxi?

Questions aside, you asked for opinions: I like long skirts, whatever they're called. : ) I have a small variety of them -- different fabric types, different fullnesses, different levels of dress (casual, dressier) and I like them all. But I also liked them before maxi dresses were "in."

Good luck with the cutting into!

Thanks for visiting my blog and for the nice compliment on my handsome young man and his robe.

I think your maxi skirt will look very nice in the wool. I didn't especially like the ones in the link with the lighter fabric dragging the floor.
